Some of the outstanding and notable successes of Vision of The Blind

  • Over the past 3 years, Vision of the Blind has supported 310 persons with disabilities and 12 parents and caregivers of children with Severe Disabilities with economic empowerment initiatives as follows:
    • Empowered 42 beneficiaries with basic business management skills;
    • 280 have undergone vocational and soft skills training; whereby 134 have been employed in the private sector and 76 are operating their own businesses after securing business stock support from Vision of the Blind, (thanks to IMPACT DIRECT among other well-wishers. These 210 people are now able to support their families;
    Currently, 70 recipients are awaiting any economic empowerment opportunities.
  • Partnered with other Organizations of Persons with Disabilities in Kenya and developed two policy briefs on Disability and inclusive employment; and a training guide on Disability inclusion in Mombasa, Kisumu and Nairobi Counties.

  • Successfully lobbied for representation of Persons With Disabilities (PWD's) in mainstream boards and Constituency AIDS Control Committees in Mombasa, Mombasa Water and Sanitation Company Ltd (MOWASCO) and constituency peace committees.
    • Influenced the National Aids Control Council to amend the Call for Proposal for Total War Against HIV/AIDS (TOWA) Round 5 to make it Disability Friendly.
    • We secured contracts for 30 Persons with Disabilities (PWD's) and supported them in marketing their music talents and products in the hospitality industry in Mombasa.
    • Carried out voter education and successfully lobbied for modification of voting centers to make them disability friendly hence increasing participation of PWD's in the 2022 general elections in Kenya.
    • Facilitated access to mobility orientation trainings to over 150 recipients and donated assistive devices to them.
